Eyelid surgery

Description

Cosmetic eyelid surgery called Blepharoplasty aims at correcting signs of aging present on the eyelids and replace the “tired” look of the eye with a more rested and relaxed appearance. Indications for surgery are: ➢ Loose or sagging skin that creates folds or hides the natural contour of the upper eyelid ➢ Excess skin that hangs down from the upper eyelid, sometimes impairing vision ➢ Excess fatty deposits that appear as puffiness in the upper eyelid ➢ Bags under the eyes ➢ Droopiness of the lower eyelids, showing white below the iris ➢ Excess skin and fine wrinkles of the lower eyelid. The procedure can be performed starting at 30 years old. Lower eyelid surgery can be indicated in young patients, as some “fat pockets” can be seen in young women or men.

The intervention

The procedure is performed under local anesthesia or general anesthesia, as appropriate. The procedure is performed in “ambulatory”, with a same-day discharge after around one hour of surveillance. An incision within the natural crease of the upper eyelid allows access to remove excess skin, muscle and underlying fatty tissue. Using an incision inside the lower eyelid, fat is removed or redistributed and muscle modified to correct a baggy lower eyelid. An incision just below the lower lash line allows excess skin to be removed. Laser resurfacing or chemical peeling may be used to smooth lower lid skin.

Recovery period

There is no real pain but some discomfort with a feeling of tension around the eyes. You need to rest and avoid any exercice the first days. The return to a normal professional and social life is already possible after a few days (6-20 days depending on the type of surgery and the way you heal).
