Breast augmentation

With silicon implants

Description

Breast size is important to many women for a variety if reasons. When a patient is dissatisfied with her breast size, augmentation surgery is a choice to consider. Breast augmentation can :

•  Increase fullness and projection of the breasts
•  Improve the balance of the patient’s figure
•  Enhance self-image and self confidence.

The procedure involves using silicone implants to fulfill the patient’s desire for fuller breasts or to restore breast volume lost after weight reduction or pregnancy.

Intervention

The scar can be placed in the breast crease, in the underarm or around the areola.
The location of the scar, the type and size of the prosthesis will be decided in consultation according to the particular anatomical context and the wishes expressed by the patient.
Placement of implants beneath the chest wall muscle or directly behind breast tissue using cohesive silicone gel implants creates desired volume.
The procedure is performed under general anesthesia as an outpatient surgery.

After your surgery

The postoperative course can be painful the first few days requiring analgesics.
Recovery period can last from 8 up to 15 days. Sport activities can be resumed after one to two months.

The result

The result is immediate. Swelling should subside in 2-4 weeks. Incision lines will continue to flatten and fade for up to 1 year.

Implants may need to be replaced : It’s important to know that breast implants are not designed to last a lifetime. Patients should plan for an annual examination by their plastic surgeon to see if the implants need to be replaced.

With autologous fat

Description

Fat harvested all over the body of the patient can be used for breast augmentation if the patient wish to have natural looking breast with a one cup increase in size.
External skin expander may be used pre and postoperatively.
Preoperative evaluation is mandatory and includes full clinical examination and breast ultrasound and mammography before and 6 months after surgery.

Intervention

Fat is harvested, centrifugated and reinjected in the pectoralis muscle as well as on top of it.
Small blunt canulas are used to introduce fat around the breast.

After your surgery

Mild pain is noticed in the donor site areas ( abdomen, tighs or hips).
Simple analgesics are enough to treat the pain.

The result

This type of surgery leaves no scars.
Some resorption of the fat injected is observed after 3 to 6 months.
